Street Markings

Yellow or white

Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines can have yellow or white street markings.

White only

Malaysia is the only country that never has yellow street markings.

Bollards

Thai bollards have alternating black-and-white colors and have a square shape.

Malaysian bollards come in different shapes but will often have the colours black, white, grey and red.

License Plates

In Thailand, commercial vehicles have yellow license plates. In Sri Lanka, rear license plates are yellow. No other country in South-East Asia has yellow license plates.

Language

The Thai language can easily be identified by its abundance of small circles on the ends of many letters.

Khmer, the language in Cambodia, can be identified by the small hooks on the top of almost every symbol, which point to the right.

The Indonesian language is very similar to Malaysian. Indonesian is influenced by Dutch and Malaysian by English. It's often hard to distinguish the two though.

Sinhala, the primary language in Sri Lanka, has many letters that look like a "C" forwards, backwards, or upside down. It appears quite "curvy".
